Ascension Choir

The Ascension Choir

The Ascension Choir is composed of dedicated volunteers and senior and junior choral scholars. The choir is open to all ages from middle school up. The choir sings principal services from Fall thru Pentecost and beyond.


The choir’s repertoire includes works from all periods and a variety of styles both accompanied and a cappella. The choir has sung major works such as Requiems by Fauré and Duruflé, Cantatas by J. S. Bach, Masses by Palestrina and an Evensong and Concert featuring the works of S. S. Wesley.


In addition to regular services the choir has presented concerts for the Birmingham Festival of Arts and has Sung an extended choral prelude at Washington National Cathedral for Alabama Day. For the last several years the choir has partnered with the choir of St. John’s, Decatur to present a service of Lessons and Carols for Advent. The two choirs have a joint choir camp at Camp McDowell.


Members of the choir are involved in other ministries of the parish, serving on the vestry, altar guild, working in outreach ministries, cooking with the gumbo team, etc.
